ELCA NEWS
On April 10, 2010,
the ELCA formally adopted the ratifications that were made to their
social statement on Sexuality entitled,
"Human Sexuality: Gift & Trust".
In summary, the
ratification makes the following changes to Lutheran teachings:
Passed a resolution urging all members to bear
the burdens of one another, especially
those with consciences bound by a different understanding regarding human
sexuality.
Passed a
resolution permitting congregations that choose to do so to recognize
publicly
accountable, life-long, monogamous, same-gendered relationships.
Passed a
resolution confirming that the church is now prepared to find a way to
roster
otherwise qualified candidates for ministry who are in publicly
accountable, life-long,
monogamous, same-gendered relationships.
Passed a
resolution directing the Churchwide organization to propose changes to
the
governing documents and policies of the Church to permit the rostering of
such
candidates.
As a result of these changes, Faith Lutheran Church
(FLC) established a task force to
prepare
an educational document (TASK
FORCE MEMO - click here) for all FLC members relating to
the
aforementioned changes to the ELCA's social statement. In
addition tomailing a
hard copy of
the document to FLC members the Task Force is including
below numerous
hyperlinks to
further your study on this issue. You will see that
a full spectrum of
opinions on the topic
have been included to provide you with an opportunity
to
examine all sides as well as related
references to scripture.
