Read Colossians |
As a congregation we are encouraging personal Bible reading at home. Take September to read and live with Paul's letter to the Colossians. Below are some things to ponder.
Chapter 1 (Week 1)
1. Three times in the first 14 versus, Paul speaks about bearing fruit. What might he mean and how is your life bearing fruit for the Lord and his church?
2. Versus 15-29 speak about the supremacy of CHrist and his headship of The Church. How do you reconcile your relationship with Jesus and His church? Can you have one without the other?
3. In verse 28, Paul uses the Greek wird teleious (translated as mature or perfect). The Greek sense of the word has a "forward" movement to it. How are you " moving forward" in your faith and in living out a maturing Christian ethic?
Chapter 2 (Week 2)
1. Paul speaks about the mystery of God being revealed in the person of Jesus as something which you can be assured! Why then are books like "The Secret" so popular?
2. What kinds of philosophies and empty deceit (i.e."The Secret) hold you captive and rob your "fulness" in Christ?
3. How does baptism set you free? Do you use your freedom to serve self and this world, or to serve Christ and his people?
Chapter 3 (Week 3)
1. Paul's wording and theology, "have been raised," reflects a quality of being raised with Christ as a reality that, in some sense, has already happened. If so, what are we "dead" to, and what are we "alive" to and what ought your life look like now? (see vs. 1-11).
2. In verses 12-17, Paul speaks about "bearing with one another," extending forgiveness and showing love--as Jesus has to you. How does that get played out in your life?
3. I think I agree with verses 18-19. Do you? To whom is the husband or wife actually submitting to? How would the quality of marriages be affected if spouses, "put themselves into it" (v23) and was subject to each other out of love for Christ?
Chapter 4 (Week 4)
1. What does Paul mean by saying , "making the most of the time?" How are you using your time and witness to the Lord and His church?
2. Paul is mentoring and training Tychicus, Onesimus, Aristarchus, Justus, and Archippus. We never hear from them, yetthey helped to spread the Gospel. Who mentored you? Who are you mentoring?
